GI Jive is Ian and Sheilagh Hartley. Since 1993 GI Jive has provided record hops for dancing at over 1000 performances. We play big band swing, rhythm and blues, jump jazz, western swing, boogie and rock and roll. Ian has appeared on local radio shows, has promoted period dance events in Sheffield and Manchester, appeared several years at the Hep Cats Holiday, and from 2002 to 2010 organised the prestigious Swing Cats Ball at Stockport Town Hall.

Dance Tuition
Sheilagh and Ian have been teaching Jive, Lindyhop since 1994 years and more recently Balboa and Shag at our Brooklands Studio and at The Imperial War Museum North for almost 4 years, Colne R&B Festival, Boogaloo Weekenders for 6 years, the Lowry Theatre, at Bude and Keswick Jazz Festivals and at numerous workshops and weekenders throughout the UK, Europe and USA. We have taught from Edinburgh to Dallas and from Arundel to Bruges.

Dance Performance
Ian and Sheilagh Hartley have performed on stage at The Royal Albert Hall at London's biggest ever swing night, the Plaza Theatre Stockport, twice at the Palace Theatre Manchester, Her Majesty's Theatre London, two seasons at Blackpool Tower Ballroom, twice at the Caveaux de la Hutchette Paris, five times at Kentwell Hall Suffolk, Radio Modern events in Belgium, the Millenium Theatre Derry, Manchester Military Tattoo MEN Arena, numerous times at Derry Jazz Festival, The Royal Northern College of Music, The Edinburgh Festival, four times Bude Jazz Festival, The Celebrity Centre, Hollywood USA , Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and at numerous other theatres and dance events throughout the UK. They have appeared on stage with dozens of bands including the Jive Aces, the Swing Commanders, The Memphis Belle Orchestra, The Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra, The Squadronaires, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, King Pleasure & the Buscuit Bays, The John Miller Orchestra and many other swing and jump jive bands.
